With less than 72 hours before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice begins at Atlanta Motor Speedway, there is still a bunch of uncertainty hovering over the possible substitute drivers for the injured Kyle Busch.

Busch, who pilots the No. 18 for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Sprint Cup Series, fractured his right leg during last weekend’s NASCAR XFINITY Series event after slamming into a concrete wall – there were no SAFER barriers in that area he hit.

While the Las Vegas, Nevada driver was released from Halifax Medial Center earlier this afternoon – after being in their custody since Saturday evening – it appears he will be unable to compete for the next few weeks, leading Joe Gibbs to find another replacement driver for Atlanta this weekend.

Despite nothing being confirmed from the Gibbs organization, multiple reports have suspected that David Ragan, who currently pilots the Front Row Motorsports machine in the Sprint Cup Series, is the leading candidate to substitute into Busch’s ride.

And with that report surfacing, Front Row Motorsports has had to scramble in the past few hours, hoping to have a back-up plan in case Ragan takeover at Gibbs.

According to Motorsport.com, David Reutimann was the leading prospect for the ride at Front Row this weekend, but due to not getting his license renewed over the offseason, the former Sprint Cup winner will not be able to partake in this weekend’s racing.

From other sources, it appears that 2000 Sprint Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte is now the leading candidate for the ride in the No. 35 Front Row entry this weekend.

As information is confirmed either from Joe Gibbs Racing or Front Row Motorsports, we will pass it along.
