Six time Bathurst 1000 winner Craig Lowndes will be honored at the season-opening Clipsal 500 Adelaide, March 4-6, as he breaks the record for the most number of rounds started by a V8 Supercars driver.

Lowndes will eclipse the record he currently shares with Russell Ingall when he starts his 251st round in Adelaide.

To celebrate the milestone, Lowndes will do a lap of honor before Saturday’s race to allow fans to show their appreciation, with V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton remarking that the trip around the Adelaide circuit will be a fitting tribute for the three-time V8 Supercars champion and all-time winningest driver in the series.

“Craig Lowndes is not just a great of motorsport but one of the greats of the Australian sport. He is a genuine household name and a firm favorite with fans across the country,” Warburton said. “At nearly 42 years of age, Craig has shown incredible endurance and resilience. His efforts in 2015 — where he won his 100th race and sixth Bathurst 1000 title and finished runner up to champion Mark Winterbottom — demonstrate there’s little chance of him slowing down in the near future.”

“The V8 Supercars family congratulates Craig on this wonderful achievement and looks forward to him being a big part of the sport for many years to come.”
