2014 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards champion Mason Mitchell successfully made his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut at Bowman Gray Stadium Saturday evening.

Mitchell qualified in the 16th position for his K&N Pro Series debut, and by lap 68 had solidly worked his way into the 11th position. Despite getting caught up trying to avoid a spin on lap 72 and coming away from the accident with left front damage, the 2014 ARCA champ drove like a seasoned veteran during the second half of the race  — coming back from 16th again to finish eighth.

Now, with the “Madhouse” in his rear-view mirrors, the 20-year-old turns his attention to the Pocono Raceway for this Saturday’s Pocono ARCA 200.

Mitchell will strap back behind the No. 78 Chevrolet for Mason Mitchell Motorsports at the “Tricky Triangle,” where the West Des Moines, Iowa native has four prior starts at Pocono including three top-fives and four top-tens.

Last year Mitchell came within two laps of defeating Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Larson for the win. Mitchell took the lead away from Larson on a late race restart, but Larson took the lead for good with two laps remaining.

“Pocono has been one of my best tracks on the ARCA schedule,” Mitchell stated. “This race not only helped my stock as a driver last year, but helped as a team — almost taking down [a] Goliath [of the sport.]”

“Pocono is a very technical track, three different corners with very different characteristic and high speed straightaways. I love this place.”

Mitchell will pilot chassis No. 589 for the event, a chassis most recently raced at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville with Austin Wayne Self that finished third. The chassis has six prior starts, earning five top-five finishes with a best finish of second three times, most recently at the 2014 Fall Salem race.

Mitchell has made two ARCA starts in 2015; Daytona, where he finished sixth, and Mobile, where he was running in the top three late and had a mechanical failure.

The ARCA Pocono 200 will be live on Fox Sports 2 on Saturday, June 6 beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern.
