EASLEY, S.C. — The Southeast Limited Late Model Series returns to Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina Saturday night for the second straight race, bringing all three of their divisions with them to the Historic Half-Mile.
Last month, 14-year-old Ty Gibbs, grandson of Super Bowl-winning Coach Joe Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing, stole the show in the 100-lap Pro division feature when he passed Mitchell Mote for the lead and his first ever late model win.
Devin Dodson, a Maryland racer making his transition from dirt to pavement, surprised everyone with his outside pole qualifying run at Greenville last month before being eliminated in the same first lap crash that damaged veterans Andrew Cordell, Omar Jurado and Mack Little along with rookie Roy Hayes and more.
Dodson will return to action this weekend. It is anticipated that Cordell, Jurado and Little should all be back as well.
New to the lineup should be 13-year-old Wisconsin racer Sam Mayer in the Hawk-McCall Motorsports No. 41. Mayer picked up a win two weeks ago at Greenville-Pickens in his first ever late model start.
Matt and Kevin Leicht, Ryan Glenski, Tasha Kummer, and more are anticipated to be in the hunt on Saturday night for race two of the eleven race schedule.
Anthony Miller won by a comfortable margin in the Challenger division last month and will be back with his sharp No. 56 to try and make it two straight wins. Bob Root, Midwest series rookie Brandon Lemke, Sawyer Frady and Davey Smart completed the top five in race one and should be ready for race two this weekend.
Gage Painter became the first ever Junior Elite division winner in February. This division is expected to grow in numbers throughout the season. Painter will be at Greenville Saturday, and Jacob Borst, Seth Henry and Dallas Thornton should also be in the lineup for this division, designed as an affordable on-ramp for young drivers to step from grassroots divisions to a full-size stock car when they are able.
Spectator gates open at 4pm this Saturday. Race time is 7pm. Visit www.GreenvillePickens.com for more information.
Following this weekend’s action, move to Dillon Motor Speedway for a two-day show, with Qualifying on Saturday, April 8th and the racing taking place on Sunday, April 9th.
